After hearing President Obama’s State of Dis-Union speech after being newly re-elected by his base of entitlement seekers, due to a lack of voters showing up at the poles out of disgust for the weakened Republican Establishment; I was asked by a friend what’s wrong with raising minimum wage? Being an admirer of the sound logic of the late great Milton Friedman, one of the most profound free market economist in recent history, the following was my response to my friend’s question.
Minimum wage is, and has always been, intended for unskilled, entry level labor. Increases come with time, experience and leadership skills. Forcing higher minimum wage, much like the affect unions have on industry, forces wages beyond what the market place can bear for entry-level employees. Therefore, higher minimum wage eliminates more jobs than it will ever create. What the Marxist and Chief refuses to tell his royal subjects and worshipers in Utopiaville, is that throughout our free market AMERICAN history, higher minimum wage aids in the onset of inflation because the added cost for “unskilled/entry-level” labor ultimately gets passed on to the consumer. You know, that consumer who can’t afford to pay for higher minimum wage anymore than you, the business owner can afford it. In short, this results in a slower economy and ultimately an economic depression. This also forces companies to go overseas for Chinese labor.
Folks, we have to think beyond the phony compassion that Liberals love to mindlessly ride the button on, because this sort of entitlement mentality that rewards people for simply existing, without expectations performance is destroying the fabric of our nation.
America, if you want more pay, then attain unique skill-sets that elevate you beyond the mundane. If the individual isn’t interested in raising him or herself beyond minimum wage status, then I would venture to say, quite boldly, that that is THEIR choice and it’s not MY responsibility as a business owner to reward their mediocrity regardless of how long someone chooses to keep a floor-sweepers mindset as a career move.
