Given that President Obama mentioned Ho Chi Minh’s knowledge of our Constitution, it gives us an opportunity to visit what truths there are surrounding his statement. It also gives us an opportunity to recollect what really happened leading up to and after the Vietnam War. The truth is that Obama’s account of Ho Chi Minh did, at one time, admire our Constitution and our country after a short visit to New York. In conclusion, Vietnam was a truly was an unnecessary war, given the fact that America was given several opportunities to circumvent the war from coming about. It was pure negligence on the part of the United States, by failing recognize the suffering of the Vietnam people under the brutal colonization of the French, and our refusal to encourage the French to alter the manner in which they occupied Vietnam territory.
This Documentary on Ho Chi Minh’s life and how he became the force that cost so any thousands of American lives explains a lot. The unfortunate truth, it seems, is that had the Truman Administration NOT rejected granting audience to Ho Chi Minh in his first attempt to meet, in Minh’s earlier years before visiting Moscow, then perhaps Ho Chi Minh would have maintained efforts to make Vietnam more like America instead of Like China under the Communistic guiding principles of Stalin. This documentary is well worth watching. You will walk away understanding that he was a man who was first driven by a cause to free his people from the French, and then later driven by a Utopian ideology that has seduced many before him.
